A Step Further Taken in the World’s Scientific Arena

Belgrade, December 03, 2010. – Major General, Prof. Dr. Miodrag Jevtić and Col. Prof. Dr. Zoran Popović represented our country at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Military Surgeons (AMSUS) recently held in Phoenix, Arizona.
Our representatives participated in this prominent event at the Association’s invitation and upon obtained compliance of the Republic of Serbia Ministry of Defense. They availed themselves of that opportunity to present our extremely well-received experiences gained in medical management of casualties in mass catastrophe situations to American and world military surgeons present to the meeting.
The representatives from the U.S.A. and other participating countries were introduced into the capabilities and accomplishments of our Military Surgery and the Military Medical Services in general.
During the Congress, Serbian representatives established many professional contacts with leading figures in the Armed Forces Medical Services of the U.S.A. and a number of other countries in the world (Austria, Germany, Spain, South Korea, France, Italy, Japan,..), all of whom expressed their interest in advancing the military medical cooperation with our country.
Our delegation members also expressed the interest of Serbia in revitalizing, within the Serbian-American bilateral military cooperation framework, medical education and training programs, which could be offered to our experts and conducted in eminent American military medical centers, such as Bethesda Naval Medical Center, which serves as the United States General Military Hospital.
During their stay in the United States, the Serbian representatives had a chance to talk with Mr. George Peach Taylor, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for health affairs, Rear-Admiral George Anderson, AMSUS Executive Director, and a number of senior officers from the Walter Reed Hospital and some management staff members in the U.S.A.F. Surgical Services .
